Career: Web Developer.
The Web Developer is responsible for executing and overseeing the development of websites for all applicable Square 2 Marketing clients -- up to 3-6 websites simultaneously, depending on client volume. You'll guide websites both large and small through the shop swiftly, delivering a user experience that's both user-friendly and technologically sound.
In addition, you'll put your web skills to work coding email newsletters to go along with those websites. These are simple, one-page, basic HTML jobs, but they're pretty persistent -- expect to do several each and every month.
This position demands excellent time management skills; completing top-notch websites and emails in a limited time frame is the essence of the Web Developer's position. Our clientele of small and medium-sized businesses do not demand the absolute bleeding edge, but they do deserve a sleek, modern website that will serve their needs for years to come.
Responsibilities:
Here's a summary of how you can expect to spend your day as our Web Developer:
- Provide assistance and guidance to the sales team to properly gauge the scope of incoming website projects
- Provide input during the design process on ways to incorporate technological wizardry to impress both the client and visitors to the site
- Work within a limited time frame to build standards-compliant websites that function well on a wide variety of browsers and platforms
- When necessary, recommend and coordinate with outside resources to deliver on client expectations that are beyond in-house capabilities and/or timeframes
- Provide running maintenance on websites for ongoing clients
- Code initial template for all client email newsletters; update template with new content when needed (i.e., monthly or bi-weekly in some cases)
Prerequisites:
- B.S./B.A. in Computer Science or related technical field
- 5-10 years' experience in creating front-end web interfaces using HTML/XHTML, CSS, Javascript (jQuery a plus), and XML
- Experience in server-side programming with PHP; ASP experience a plus
- Experience in setting up databases using MySQL; experience in e-commerce environments a plus
- Experience in providing off-the-shelf content management systems (i.e., Joomla, Drupal, etc.); experience in creating custom content management systems a plus
- Working knowledge of search engine optimization techniques and practices
- Ability to deliver scalable websites that function properly on old and new browsers and platforms, including mobile devices
- Champion of best practices in web programming, including conforming to the latest web standards as defined by the W3C
- Expertise in web hosting, including domain and server setup and transfer
- Eagerness to keep up with developments in the field through both individual research and guided extended learning
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, including presentations
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite a plus
- Comfortable in Mac environment
