Technology Has Its Benefits

If you read my blog regularly, you know I talk a lot about how to improve your business. Today, I wanted to pause from that and share a story with all of your. The story is about how technology really does have its benefits, despite its bad rap from time to time.

If you read my blog, you know I like to give credit where credit is due. I recently purchase a new Samsung plasma TV. Its my first flat screen TV and needless to say, I was a little excited.

Unfortunately, the sound kept dropping out. About once or twice a day, the sound would simply turn off. I had to turn the TV off and then on to get the sound back. After putting up with it for about 30 days, I finally called Samsung, something I wasn’t looking forward to at all.

Here is where the story gets good. After being on the phone for about 10 minutes (about 50 minutes less than I expected) the representative told me I needed new software on the TV. He then emailed it to me, told me to put it on a flash drive and plug it into my TV. Hmmm, ok…well after a few clicks of my remote, the TV rebooted and my problem was solved.

Now that is impressive, remarkable, and an excellent use of technology.

Using Video to Drive Web Traffic

According to the NYT, Comscore has some interesting stats on video viewing online.

1. 75% of Internet in the US now watch an average of 3 hours of video online per month
2. The average viewing of a video is 2.7 minutes
3. 2.5 billion videos were viewed on Google sites in July, of which 2.4 billion

How do we, as marketing people and business owners take advantage of this growing trend? First, we need to have video content. Every one of us could create a short video giving tips related to our profession. Next we need the video to be posted on our websites and we need to submit those videos to UTube and other content aggregators for search and distribution to our target audiences.

Finally, track, test and measure. Benchmark your websites traffic now and then each week while you post your video. You should see increases in traffic and new referring links as your program grows.

Easy Web 2.0

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about SEO 2.0. I wanted to spend a few minutes giving you a great example of how easy Web 2.0 really is to implement on your website.

One area that Google is gearing up is there Maps Search. To take advantage of their new features and improve your sites ranking, implement a simple Google Maps in your company info, contact us, or directions page and the result will be improved rankings on Google.

Here is an example of how we did it for one of our clients. Click here to view it on our development server.

Continuous Improvement...is it that important?

Yes! To be blunt. It might be the most important thing you do. To be relevant, in less than 24 hours, Apple is holding an event to announce its new iPod. Now, we all know the current iPod is great and works just fine, but the continuous tweaking, new features, and general excitement associated with this product makes Apple a “remarkable” company and one that is extremely successful. If you are interested in the details, click here to read an interesting article.

How do we as owners of small to medium sized business learn something from Apple. Well, first we must make sure we are constantly tweaking, adjusting, and improving our offerings. Business owners should NEVER feel like our offerings are “good enough.” Another example, is at Square 2 Marketing, we continually adjust our engagement package, coaching services, and event program to always improve it based on YOUR (our prospects and clients) feedback.

This process won’t result in change daily, weekly, or even monthly. But like Apple, it will help you continually roll out new offerings, new products, or improvement to your current products or services. This also gives you and your sales people a reason to reach out to new customers, current customers and prospects that you have been trying to sell to for a while.

Based on our clients and prospects feedback, we created this new and exciting event at www.realitymarketingsummit.com. Check it out today, seating is limited.
